When your shopping for a hammock it is important to take brand names into account. Poor hammock construction can lead to the short life of a hammock - particularly rope hammocks which are susceptible to fraying and deterioration from bad weather conditions.
Whether your looking for a hammock or hammock chair, it is important that the product be constructed properly and of the appropriate materials. The type of climate you live in and whether you plan to use your hammock indoors or outdoors will have an impact on what type of material may be best suited for your needs.
There are many brands to choose from, but some of the top brands on the market today include Hatteras Hammock and Pawleys Island Hammocks. These two brands have been in the business for years and are capable of delivering the very best in quality hammocks.
So when your out shopping for your new hammock remember, quality does matter.

Time as usual has flown by and another year is already here. Yup, it’s 2009 and you know what that means - a new chance to restore optimism through a new resolution.
There are many common new year resolutions such as dieting, exercising, smoking and many more. But one that often gets overlooked is relaxation. Each year seems to get busier and busier and we find that we have less and less time for ourselves. Time to relax and reflect back on our day, week, month, year and life.
It doesn’t have to be for hours and hours, but wouldn’t it be nice to get 30 minutes to ourselves each day to just relax? Time to work on a hobby, read a book or simply just relax.
Well I am making it a goal for 2009 and you should too.
A hammock is the perfect way to relax - forget about the stresses in your life for a while and just relax. Think of it as a timeout from life - a mini vacation just for you

Not many people are familiar with cypress wood and the advantages it brings to the world of hammock stands.
Cypress is a relatively light wood that is extremely durable and highly resistant to moisture and insects. The secret to it’s ability to withstand harsh conditions is the oil that is produced by the wood which acts as a natural sealant. It is this oil - known as cypressine - that allows the wood to be left outdoors without being damaged.
In addition to it’s strength and resiliency is it’s beauty. Cypress is a naturally attractive wood that has been used in modern furniture construction - such as the Cypress Arc Hammock Stand.
So if your shopping around for a hammock, make sure to look for a cypress hammock stand to go along with it - you won’t be disappointed.

Cotton and polyester are two of the most popular materials used in modern rope hammock construction. While they are both great materials for this purpose, they do have their advantages and disadvantages.
Cotton is extremely comfortable and when used for making hammocks, it creates a hammock bed that is super soft and very cozy. The downside to cotton is that it is a very delicate fabric that is susceptible to fraying and deterioration over time. This process is often accelerated when a cotton rope hammock is left outside in the rain or snow.
Polyester on the other hand is much more durable than cotton, but not quite as soft. It is capable of withstanding harsh weather conditions in terms of it’s strength, however polyester is prone to fading over time when exposed to heavy sunlight.
Wouldn’t it be great if there was a material that combined the advantages of both cotton and polyester? It was with this question that gave birth to the fabric known today as DuraCord®.
DuraCord® is a relatively new fabric that combines the comfort of cotton and the durability of polyester. It is colorfast too, so unlike a polyester hammock, a hammock constructed of DuraCord® can be exposed to sunlight without losing its original color.
It’s no wonder why DuraCord® has become an increasingly popular choice for making hammocks.

Well unfortunately fall is winding down and before you know it winter will be here. For some of us that means temperatures dip down into the 60’s (you hear me Florida & California), but for a lot of us, that means bitterly cold weather with snow and ice.
For those of you that get to experience the thrill of freezing temperatures, you should really take the time to store away your hammock the right way. Depending on your set up, it only takes a matter of minutes and can add years to the life of your hammock.
Freezing temperatures and wet weather can take a toll on hammocks and hammock stands, particularly if you have a cotton rope hammock. The reason for this is that cotton is a delicate material and is prone to fraying over time when it is exposed to harsh weather conditions.
Help keep your hammock safe this winter by taking it down for the season, cleaning it and storing it in a warm place where it is out of harms way. You will want to do the same with your hammock stand.
So take a few minutes out of your day before the cold weather comes around and protect your favorite piece of outdoor furniture (your hammock of course)!
